a.lady.in.the.street asked:
A few weeks back my ex-boyfriend (we dated for three months, have been apart for almost two now, broke up because I wanted a commitment and he doesn’t want a serious relationship) said he was getting me a Christmas gift, which I thought was kind of strange. I hadn’t planned on getting him anything, even though we’re friends, because hey, he’s not my boyfriend anymore. Last week he asked whether we were still getting each other gifts. I told him I hadn’t planned on getting him something because I wasn’t getting gifts for any of my other guy friends. He replied “I guess I’ll have to return the diamond earrings and lingerie.” Why would he joke about something like that, given that he knows I still care about him? Is this some type of mind game, like to show me what I’m missing by not being with him? I’m not sure how to respond, or whether to just stop talking to him.
