karat, not carrot.
Colors run from A on down - G-H is an okay color for earrings, not the best, but usually good enough to the naked eye for regular wear.
Clarity is from IF (internally flawless) on down…SI1 means Slight Inclusions 1 (goes to 3 which is worse)…again, a nice middle of the road value for everyday earrings.
Go online to a diamond jewelry online store…they usually have complete info about color and clarity gradings.
The letter (G-Hin this case) is about the color of the diamond. Yes at a glance they are all “clear” but lower quality look a bit yellow. I *think* G/H is about middle of the road quality.
SI1 is about imperfections that are included. S=slightly I=Included, 1 is about the “level”. SI1 is about middle of the road as well.
My man & I picked out my engagement ring not too long ago, and the salesman explained all that to us. If you are purchasing from a decent jewelery store, they should be able to explain it to you.
Basically though, how do they look to you? Compare different types and see if you notice the yellow or or any black spots in the diamonds. If you can’t tell the difference, go with what’s cheaper.
4 C’s:
CUT - which is basically the shape of the diamond. the more facets or cuts it has the more places light will reflect, giving it a more “shiny” look. in general emerald cut has the least facets (less shine) and round brilliant cut has most facets.
COLOR - this is where your G-H color comes from. clear diamonds you can buy from a store can range from D to H or worse color. the closer it is to D, the more colorless the stone will be. I’ve seen a diamond that is H-I color that is close to a milky brown.
CARAT - size.
CLARITY - your SI1 = slight inclusions 1 means that you can see with a diamond “loop” small hairline fractures in your diamond. a loop is what professionals use to look into the diamond; a glorified magnifying glass if you will. more flaws the cheaper the diamond.
these four C’s together are what makes the price. i.e. you have $300 budget: you can either get a LARGE size with H color and a not so shiny cut and SI2 OR a CLEAR diamond with small size, VVS and ok cut OR …
You have to decide for yourself what combination you want so your earrings will be “nice”. g’luck
Any reputable jeweler will help you with all this. Just realize you are looking at a pricey pair of earrings at one Carat each. Especially if you are getting a very good quality. My diamond ring is a little less than a carat, but is V V S 1 and it’s worth about $8000.00
