There is no need to use harsh chemicals like ammonia on your stones. An old toothbrush and some warm soapy water should suffice to clean. As for disinfecting, you could use an antibacterial soap, or you could simply place them in boiling water for half an hour or so (diamonds can withstand temperatures over 1000 degrees, so it shouldn’t hurt them).
