1/2 a carat is pretty good enough for a diamond earring. Don’t look good if it is too big for a earring.

Maybe you can give her a credit card and let her buy something she like if you don’t mind how much to spend. (just kidding)

I am assuming that you mean 1/2 carat stud earrings which make two 1/4 carat diamonds. The average size for stud earrings are either 1/4 or 1/3 carat. 1/2 is actually a bit bigger, but not gaudy and can run from 500 to 1000. The next size up would be 3/4 of a carat which can start out at about 1000 dollars, and 2000 is not unheard of for certified top notch.

If you are going out and buying gifts of those nature and size, and she is telling you that is not good enough, then you are in for a world of financial and personal hurt. Jewelry is about the thought behind it and not what you can afford.

If this is the indicator of what is going to happen, then perhaps you should re-evaluate your choice in girlfriends before she tells you that your engagement ring is not enough.
